Reflections on the Creation of Man

I just finished reading three commentaries on Genesis chapter one. Here's what I've learned.

1- No one really knows what it means that we were made in God's image. The biggest debate is whether or not it has to do with our physical bodies. The common ground is that it makes us the best means for seeing God on earth.

2- The experts agree. God did not make a bisexual human. He made male and He made female.

3- Genesis is not meant to be read as a textbook, nor a fairy tale.

4- To understand the book, you must understand the author and the time in which it was written.

Profound, huh? (not.) I'm not surprised by any of this, but you might be. At the very least, my own suspicions have been strengthened. When it comes to creation, God did it. The point is not that we know how, but know that we are the culmination of it and have a special relationship with God.

let the culture shock begin!

Well, we arrived to a house full of helpers and the truck was unloaded quickly. I was able to meet a few more teens and once everyone left Chris and I collapsed into bed.

The house is beautiful. It has brand new wall to wall carpet on the two main floors and every room has fresh paint. Flowers were planted in the front, the fridge was stocked, cleaning supplies were on both floors, and the counter was full of food. Who could ask for more?

So now for the culture shock. 1- two neighbors have already introduced thmselves and welcomed us to the neighborhood. One even said "God bless." 2- people are ridiculously friendly and nice. 3- we went to a pro baseball game, paid only $10 for parking, got into the stadium without feeling like part of a cattle call, and are now sitting 15 rows off the field on the 3rd base side paying again, only $10 (per ticket.) WIERD!!!!

moving part 2: Scranton

My interview at Dunder Mifflin was a failure. It seems I just have far too much common sense to work there! ;) So it's off to Monongahela I go.

Our hotel was a bear to find. The GPS was about a mile off and even after we called it was a maze just getting to the place because portions of the lot were being paved. There was no obvious main entrance but Chris managed to find the front desk. They told him he only reserved 1 room, but eventually figured out it really was 2.

The rooms thelselves were quite nice! They had a square theme going throughout: knobs on the sink and shower, picture frames, tile; and the bedding was a fluffy white comforter with a royal blue blanket at the bottom. No nasty, scratchy, flower printed quilty thing in sight. Woo hoo! Bree (the bunny) even liked the room. She ate all her hay and veggies, drank some water, and used her litter box. Good bunny!! She thumped at us before going back in her carrier. It was REALLY funny. She knew what was coming!

The best part of our stop was breakfast in this little hole in the wall called the Sunrise Cafe. It had good, inexpensive food and atmosphere to die for. It was filled with old men who said hello to half the people who waled by, was decorated with chickens and suns, and just screamed "home." We all loved it. Our waitress even looked like a friend from home- so much so that my dad had me take a picture!

It looks like we will arrive around 4:30pm. Then the fun REALLY begins. Look out Monongahela; here we come!

moving part 1: lugging, loading, and leaving.

First of all, a big pat on the back, you've earned a gold star, treat youself to a cookie THANK YOU to everyone who helped pack, clean, lug,and load. We could not have done it without you!

We started loading the truck this morning shortly after 8am. It became apparent very quickly that even my design savvy, packing expert friends would not be able to fit all of our stuff inside of it. I thought going one size bigger than what the moving company recommended would do the trick. FAIL. We set aside things that were low on the priority scale and ended up leaving at least 5 pieces of furniture on the curb- free for whoever wants them. We also had to leave behind 2 (literal) truckloads of stuff in my parents basement. We aren't entirely sure how we'll get it all to PA.

We ate lunch, swept the apartment, cleaned out the fridge, took showers, and finally headed out at 3:15. Wow, THREE FIFTEEN. Good thing we weren't in a hurry.

We stopped in Natick to adjust the truck mirror and fix my seat so that my head wasn't up to my knees. We stopped in northern CT where Bree (the bunny) had her first outdoor trollop in the dirt. And now, we are on our way to Danbury CT where we hope to eat at the Olive Garden. Yum yum.

Bree was pretty funny outside. She poked her head around, went up on her hind legs to get a better view, then hopped back into her carrier. She was all cafaufulled!

Oh well, so far, so good.
